Epic bump of justice BTW.

I don't see what the problem would be with this - just set Guild Wars time to UTC and then they start posting the weekend events and whatever else in Guild Wars time.

But since this hasn't been done in 1.5 years after the thread started, don't see it happening.

Guild Wars already has its own timezone; Pacific Standard Time. It seems like it would be easier to just put a clock down in the corner that shows PST time.

That's the time YOU see in your client.
Each translation and some regions have different times.
For example, Spanish translation uses GMT+1 (Madrid, Paris, Bruxelles, Copenhagen).
So, let's not think that the world revolves around people of certain language or region, ok?

Go to the Wiki and look at the top. If you activate JavaScript and use the default skin you'll see a clock. That clock is in UTC.

That's the one to use. Pacific time is NOT worldwide. Guild Wars IS worldwide. UTC is universal, worldwide and as logical as possible.

Using Pacific time would be as illogical as imposing those arbitrary Imperial customary units instead of the Metric System, when only three countries in the entire world have not accepted the Metric System: Liberia, Myanmar and the United States.

Logic is above ALL.

God invented clocks and fingers. You look at a clock and use fingers to figure out what time it is in other places on the globe.

ANet also need to figure out that they are -8GMT, not -7 as they keep saying.

That's not what I was talking about. What I was saying was that if they are going to post things in PST, then they should just make PST the universal timezone for GW players to base it off of. Ergo, when they put a clock in the game, instead of having to write all sorts of code to make it so it switches time back and forth for people from -12 GMT and +12 GMT, they can just put a small clock in the corner that says what time it is relative to the ingame world; which just happens to correspond to PST.

I do not believe the world revolves around people of a certain region or language, and I kind of resent what you accused me of. I'm merely stating that GW already uses PST as their 'universal' timezone, and as such it seems like they could just put a small function in the game to make it easier to figure out for those of us that are not in the same zone (Which for half of the year I am). I'm all for GW having some sort of standardized time system, I'm just pointing out that they already have one. Arenanet is in Seattle, there's no reason why that shouldn't become the basis for standardized time were they to come up with one.

And I have already stated that th official wiki uses UTC, not PST. And that each region has it's own time.

ArenaNt has quarters all over the world, one in Seattle, one in Bringston, etc...
It's not all dependant on Seattle, it's worldwide and all work toguether.

UTC is UNIVERSAL. Pacific time is NOT.
UTC is the one used as default in the Wiki clock, Pacific time is not.

Logic, not subjectivity.

Been suggested multiple times before and I always /sign it.

GW being an international game could really use easily accessible universal time, for events, update times, and player / international guild meetings.

A simple /time command would do, right now the closest thing we can use is the recently added UTC clock at official GW Wiki http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page

Or just show GMT time in game, or even better yet, you can check what time it is yourself.... honestly it's not that hard.

Mithran, PST is used as the GW standard time. If you doubt this, look at any event timeframe on the official site, and you''ll see it noted in PST. The time used on the wiki has nothing to do with Anet, since Anet doesn't actually run the wiki. It was a decision by the users and admins to use UTC there.

The PST in the wiki is derived from people copying data from the the US home page. The last Dragon Festival had also times in UTC.

Why to stick with PST if it's not universal unlike UTC that it's already implemented in the wiki?

Why to make something for some and then make the rest adapt instead making something for all and let everyone adapt?

The announcements on the login page are shown in PST, that's not just an arbitrary decision by the Wiki writers. Yes, Anet has offices all over the world, but by far their headquarters is definitely in Seattle. It makes sense for me they would make it the basis for all times, just as I would expect if I were playing a game from a company based in London or Brisbane they would use local time from there.

And I think you're forgetting that PST is just as universal as UTC/GMT. It's still exactly the same system, it's just a different offset. I don't know about you, but I still have to convert my time when I'm accounting for events and such. If they switched to GMT/UTC it would still inconvenience the same number of people, and it would have no basis for Anet or GW.

The reason they haven't changed the design of the wheel in over 2,000 years is because it still works. PST works just as well for GW as UTC/GMT would; the same number of people would still have to go online and convert their time. There's no reason to change it. Logic, not subjectivity.

All they really need to do is just put a PST clock down in the corner so people can login and see how long they have, regardless of what they have their clocks next to their computer set to. Or maybe even a command like /mytime for our local times, and /gametime for PST. Or, better yet, ignore timezones completely and just put a counter into the system that says "Emperor Kisu will be arriving in XXX minutes."

I dont normally have a problem with time, jsut the odd time where im not sure do i add +7 or +8 for Daylight savings.

I think its a great idea.... Would make life easier as I have quite a few friends that never get the idea. Even if you put a certain time and specify the time zone they still are clueless.... I think the command /time would be the best. That way any time there is a question about time all u have to do is type the command.

The time command could say:

Your time: 00:00:00 (Player system clock time, Windows time)
Tyrian time: 00:00:00 (UTC time)
Difference: ±00 (System time) - (UTC time) = +12..-11
